I left my wife and children laying in their graves That sickness come and took 'em, left me here to stay And so I sail this wretched sea, my empty soul my company There's water, water everywhere and I've had too much to drink Our captain slumbered at the wheel, ran our ship ashore We pillaged her from stern to bow, stripped her to the core And as her ashes danced away, a siren song began to play That old ghost of a melody that haunts me to this day Now everything's grown gray and cold Salt cracked lips and fish-hook toes Tattered rags and tourniquets adorn my aching bones Curse this brittle skin, this bitter flesh I'm in Curse this flowing blood Settled dust and sin is all that lies within Every shallow breath I staggered and I stumbled through that crooked land To make my my name and stake my claim, start over again But every rotten seed I sowed fell apart from head to toe I crumbled and I quivered as I cursed the ground below On that endless sea there ain't no room for me There's plenty room for you So chase that setting sun The deeds ain't ever done The days ain't ever through They found me barely sleeping on that rocky shore They shackled me with all the rest and chained me to an oar And now I row row row this boat, cursed by what keeps me afloat I count the days until the water rises to my throat
