Uptight, but lazy Upstanding young lady You've gone off the rails again Setting a table for dinner outside At three in the afternoon The cul-de-sac's battling A roach problem, bringing in men Masked, with guns Our armored apprentices Scavenging food from the plate From under the nose Like we've been doing for years Decided to meet up inside of that tent That big stripy one Orange and green That's where our troubles began In two minutes flat There was blood in your nose and my eyes But we didn't mind Decided to call up some friends to drop by For a snack, for a smoke, for whatever Then Elizabeth's mom called the cops and they found us Green, gasping for air Luckily we didn't care And that's how at fifteen I detached from optical vanity What a mess that we get to share The two of us making it somewhere The men that you know and the oats that they sow Are keeping trade secrets in boxes You can light up the car or scream out from afar But they're driving absurdity homeward Blonde headed arrogance Children of privilege Screaming and crying for blood A nice summer stroll Interrupted by stifling pestilence Clouding the sky Reclaiming what never was mine My best friends from home started going to meetings Of one certain type or another New names and addresses and Real hidden messages Crying O how we are right O god, take us back to the tent And that's why at thirty-three I've detached from my magnanimity What a crime, to ask to play fair So I'm depositing hopefulness elsewhere
