What I Didn't Know About Nebraska

I was driving back to Nashville from LA Thought I'd go north and take the slowest way To make it on back home a little time to be alone After years of living where I never did belong At a roadside restaurant outside of Lincoln I heard the waitress ask well honey whatcha thinking And I looked up to see an angel smiling at me And I said I think I'll have one dream to go What I didn't know about Nebraska Was that heaven was right there in the heartland Looking out from your blue eyes What I didn't know about Nebraska Was there was magic in the air when you touched my hand And made me realize my whole world changed right then And I could never do without you or Nebraska again Then you laughed and joked that you got off at eight And I sort of laughed back and told you it's a date I said I wasn't going nowhere and you just said I swear I've never done anything like this before And something in the clear Nebraska night Told me I belonged right here with you the rest of my life
