Smoke

Smoke's pouring in through the window Glass is shattered across the floor But there's a little space Where the air is fine A foot off the ground and That's where you'll find me Ants crawl in the cracks of the floorboards Going about their busy day They don't have a clue Of the damage above Just walking over glass and Charging ahead for bread Everybody looks like ants from down here Even if I had a spaceman suit Strong enough to fight the air of the moon and I put the helmet on and The shirt and the pants and The sleeves and the shoes I'd still be smelling smoke I'd still be sweating strong I'd want to run away I wouldn't be today and I wouldn't sleep tonight One day the smoke will clear out New window panes will frame the wall But not today it won't No it'll be quite a while of Lying mouth faced up Breathing the fresh clean air and Letting atrophy Slowly take hold of me Or I could arch my back A little more each day and Find the air is fine and Even if it kills me I just wouldn't care at all No I'd be quite alright It's just going to take some long, long nights To convince myself
