The Casket

I stand on our casket to see up ahead A meadow made of green and a river of red You stand in the field with a mouth full of dandelions You spit them out and say; The sun's grown too bright I can't see you anymore So won't you be my eyes? I'm scared, but by God, I'll try You sing like a mockingbird, beautiful lies You're looking my direction, but you won't meet my eyes You stand in the river and bait the fish with your blood You flail around and say; Why won't they bite? I am starving and starting to rust I push and I beat and I pry I'm scared, but by God, I'm trying I step off our casket and make my way home For the first time in my life I think I need to be alone I'm here when you need and I love you all the same No, this is not my white flag These words they repeat in my mind forever engraved My stomach's been turning through time I'm scared, but by God, let's try
