My Own Light

When I was young Life was like a bad dream Good things didn't seem Destined for me I was confused About what to hold dear Not enough love And just too much fear Slowly I learned To trust what feels good To love myself And lighten my mood Life's too sweet To waste it on greed I have Much more than I need Growing up lonely Through times that were tough Worried about Was I good enough Stare into the moonless night The path is clearer by My own light Floating up high Above the Earth With nothing in between I wonder If you see me now do you think you know what I mean I can see the ones Who would hold me down And push my face In the dirt I know They're the only ones That they can ever hurt Nothing touches me I'm wild and free As I take my rightful place I don't have to be Ashamed to be A member of the Human race Growing up lonely Through times that were tough Worried about Was I good enough Stare into the moonless night The path is clearer by My own light
