Old Man's Rant (First Time Last Time)

Now when I was just a boy I lived life with such a joy See I could run just like the wind And I would swim from morning till the end I had the laugh you know the laugh of a child I'd throw a ball a half a mile And I knew love pure unbound And I could jump so high off the ground As I passed my formative years I learned fast to hide my tears Now I look out on a time That I just don't see as mine So I don't talk unless I've got something to say And I won't walk unless I got somewhere to be I don't believe all the words on the page And I won't yell and put myself in a rage And as you see me the first time That's how you'll see me the last time No I won't try to remember your name I'm not impressed with no fortune or fame I don't care what you want me to know I'll stop on green and on red I may go And as you hear me the first time That's how you'll hear me the last time I won't be someone I'm not And I won't tie you won't tie you up in a knot I won't sip what you want me to drink And I sure won't think how you want me to think And if you hate me the first time You're gonna hate me the last time I won't lean anywhere to the right I'm not afraid to walk into the light And I won't change just to make you a friend And for them I'll be there till the end And if you love me the first time You're gonna love me the last time
