Ceiling

It seems that everybody knows What's going on And they're keeping it A secret A perfect plot for them to carry on To put together pieces So I'll go ahead and tell my dodgy truths And you will still believe them It's hard to describe just what you want When wanting turns to needing So I'll wait around for somebody To come on up and bother me If they've got the time But they never do And that's just how God teaches me Exactly what the preachers mean Do unto others As they do unto you A lesson learned Is a lesson very clear There's no room for delaying You must decide who you're living for When no one else is staying Because this body that contains your very soul Is already decaying And if time is the force that tips the scale You'd better get to weighing I'm tired of waiting 'round for somebody To come on up and bother me If they've got the time But they never do And that's just how God teaches me Exactly what the preachers mean Do unto others As they do unto you Today I will starve Cornered by the way that I think Tomorrow will dissolve Like our picture perfect moment When the hours start to crawl It's a righteous inclination The conclusion that you draw Sometimes God is work And when I need my mind To be extinguished I'll start the drive But never finish And when I reach the light Upon the ceiling I'll realize You were only kidding
