Thunder In The East

When I was a young boy I saw the sunrise Gazing at all the life All the life in the orange Flowers and fireworks Blue skies and homely faces Made me feel the life in my bones Made me want for something more Then oneday I heard thunder rolling in the east The echoes of a distant strain that sang to me And left all my toys and crayons behind To go see it for myself With a newfound destiny I set off down the road out of Eden And on that road I found pleasures and riches And everything that I was looking for But further up the way I saw The remains of a fawn that lay spread about Thirty feet of pavement painted red Where the poor thing tumbled under a truck And in the dried up blood and flesh I saw my own heart laying there And it was hardly still beating It was hardly still beating But ever did I wander closer to that streaking sky Ignoring every sign of danger Now all I see is clouds around me Enshrouding my whole life The lightning flashes right before my eyes I guess I got to see what it was that I so longed for Or maybe this was all just one big joke Is there something better out there Something that can fill the gaps 'Cause right now I feel more empty than before I fall into the same old sins over and over And everytime my soul shrivels more I've fallen into the same old sins way too many times And now I can't feel anything anymore But through the dark ahead I see a fork in the road To the left it just gets darker But to the right I see hope 'Cause down that way there is a hill And on top I see a cross And hear a voice calling out "Child won't you please come home" So I leave my past behind and set off down this new road 'Cause in the distance where it leads I see lighting up the sky The sun rising in the east again
