Watching the Ducks

Maybe if we sit and watch the ducks a little longer The pond might freeze over and we'll know what they do Don't you think their feet look a little funny How do they hold hands they can't interlock their toes While we're sat I might tell you what I'm scared of What will I be when I become wrinkles and bones I wonder if the scar on my knuckle will be gone From when that dog bit me when I was young Do you think about that much What's on your mind before you go to bed You have trouble sleeping I have difficulty being asleep It's far too close to death for me And I am not tired enough yet Of being in my body Of being in my mind Just a few more years I was gonna get you to order my food for me but I remembered that the man in the shop will die So they can't laugh at me when I do something ridiculous No one's mocking when you're in the grave Get me drinking and I'll become a different person Get me out the house and get me on the booze I'll talk to you if I can walk with a little wobble Otherwise I'll have to make you look the other way Do you think about that much What's on your mind when you're in a conversation You don't have trouble talking I have difficulty being here Waiting to say something stupid Or worse say nothing at all Get me in my body Get me back in the room Just a few more beers Too much talking about me So many big voices and I'm the biggest of them all See I'm back talking about myself again Far too good at that I mean this whole album is about me Some of its third person But we all know what it means Self-centred all the way to my middle But I never learned how to write about someone else Do you think about it much I want to be in a conversation I have difficulty with you Its impossible to be alone Waiting to do something stupid Or worse do nothing at all Keep me in my body Don't let me leave the room Please just stay here Please just stay here Please just stay here
