Childhood's Gone for Good

Clock hits three, bell rings HAGS exchanged, pack my things It's hard to believe elementary's all behind be Who knows what things the future's gonna bring But one thing's for sure Now my childhood's gone for good In middle school, no longer have a curfew I stay up too late cuz there's nothing to do Make atheist friends cuz my parents told me not to Loneliness looms but homework's always due Everything I've been through Now I know my childhood's gone for good Graduation day, don't know most of my class Didn't know four years could pass me fast I never went to parties, never had my first kiss So many core memories that I have missed You can't have regrets when you're just a kid I guess this means my childhood's gone for good A college kid, I'm fighting with my head Taking prozac before bed, smoking weed when I can I'm starting to think instead it might be better being dead Than working just for pay til my heart gives way I used to be so much like my dad But I've changed now because my childhood's gone for good I'll be twenty in just six days Keep thinking about money and a future family But all I want to do is make friends and sing I'm not ready yet to hide away my dreams But it's silly, cuz you can't be twenty Without leaving your childhood behind for good My pup is getting up there in the years Her muzzles grey, and she's deaf in both ears When I hold her close, I can't hold back my tears Because I know her date's getting near And when she gets too tired to keep living here I know with her my childhood will be gone for good
