The first time I died I was only 5 Chlorine mouth and burning eyes But I could see the the wall light Painfully bright Greeting me then saying goodbye Marked my first time wondering why I'd survived Haunted by a question I've had my whole life I was just turning 14 This beard was still new to me When the world shook And I mistook The sound For jets leaving the ground Marked the next time wondering why I'd survived Haunted by a question I've had my whole life My hands don't have rings They have scars From the thousand times Ive lived so far Although I've invited death Life keeps showing up at my door I know it's a lie To say that's the last time I'll wonder why I survived I survived
