On the Walk Home

For years I've waited For a sign that indicated a spark In your eyes to show me path which to embark It never came so I stayed in the dark Just come with me and let's grab ourselves a drink Maybe then you can tell me what you think On the walk home, it got cold And the snow came falling down And with no sound around Her hand came to mine As we walked slow in time Watched our breath turn to smoke And the moon knew with it's glow Our walk home, it would be slow And drawn-out Still dug in my mind is the still of the night And her words as she spoke She said, I admire spending time with you There is nothing I would rather do The tone of her voice told the truth And it let me know To grip tight and don't let go For years I've been pushing water with a rake uphill And haven't stopped to think of my mistakes It took you to open up these eyes That maybe I've been doing something right On the walk back the sun rose And I chose a different path And was alright with that My sight would be blurred as I moved on forward With my mind stuck in trance Am I naïve to believe that someone wants me for me And only me I can't be too sure yet already I yearn For a second chance Heavier weighs lost love over time Good things come to those with patient minds A foraging mind only seeks to find A provisional plug that barely fills the void
