It Ends

Geese overhead, yet again Heading south, just silhouettes The only certainty of that sun Is that it sets So driving west, we take it slow The only thing we really know About this road Is that it ends At the edge of this continent Holding my breath Tight in my chest Rolling the camera to catch what is left Knuckles are white Grippin' it tight Trying to fight what is just out of sight I wish it was different But it's just so viciously true Back and forth, the drifting snow In from the north the winter blows On the darkest days all we know Is that it ends The east wind will go right through That's what he sang, what can you do When you know your time is soon And that it ends Much too soon but that it ends You hold in your breath Puff out your chest Gather your courage and hope for the best Playin' the odds Quietly nod Trying stop what I know I cannot I wish it was different But it's just so viciously true Satellites overhead Are these cosmos infinite Would it change all we know If it ends So past the sun, round the bend To the universe's edge What lies beyond, is there just nothing Is that something, I'm just wondering Does it end What if it ends
