Hyperventilating and shortness of breath This is especially common if someone starts to relive it And feel like they're back in that place of vulnerability They give a big reaction to something small That is, their reaction is disproportionate to the situation Because their past trauma has been touched on And therefore is impacting their perception They shut down emotionally So the conversation may shift to something more surface level Because they have less capacity to go deeper Given part of their attention is taken up by their trauma They go silent Which happens when you totally dissociate from the environment And while this may be visible Going quiet in general can be caused by many things And is rarely attributed to having one's trauma triggered If you have depression What it all comes down to Is whether it'll end My thoughts are all down too Is there nothing else But what it all comes down to Will my thoughts bring me down too Am I nothing else When you pick up the phone And ring the dial And hear the tone I know you know that I'm not here Oh cause I took the fall And made the call Went through it all Thinking it's best that I'm not here
