My Name

It's two AM somewhere Don't know where that is I step out to the street There's no cab for me No traffic to pass No one to point and laugh A fresh blanket of snow Nowhere to go The storefront lights are out Everyone's home, no doubt Just me on the side Of the green, red, and yellow lights I stumble here and there The poison's in my breath I'm in no shape to drive So I Sleep as the snowflakes come down Not a living soul around Drunken steps into the walls This is not my life at all Flashing lights creep behind me Then I'm shoved into the back seat They ask me if I know this place I don't even know my name The walls are drained of tone As I'm chilled down to my bones I sit in a dark cell It's time to settle down I was given just one call But I didn't know who to seek So I laid down in my cell And decided to dream Dreamt beyond the black and white Dreamt of a parallel life Can I get things working right Or am I stuck in an endless night The morning comes and I'm released Like a dog onto the streets But I do not have a leash What comes next is up to me
