Life was a laughing brook which tumbled and tripped Down the mountainside Joined the river of man's desire Which ebbed and flowed with every tide And the ones who said I was doing fine Turned out to be both deaf and blind And treated me so unkindly Tried to steal my soul away Life was a hardened fist Body just a place to hide World outside was black as night I was swimming against the tide And the coolness of the blue distance Left no hope for my soul And twisted tales of truthless men Left me spinning out of control I was lost in the wilderness My ideals buried in the sand I was laid down by a dried up brook With my mind too confused to understand Then I looked up to the mountains And I heard a distant cry Hang on to who you are Don't live in someone else's lies I gazed up And the light shone brightly Driving out my fear The warm wind kissed my upturned face And dried up all my tears I had to come to my senses When the cold wind whistled my tune Look at all the time we have wasted Howling at an unforgiving moon So take a chance Hold on tight To who you are Don't quit the fight No one can take your soul away They can only steal your time So take a chance At what you feel At what you know And what is real The lies of men can hold you strong But keep looking for The place where you belong The place where you belong The place where you belong The place where you belong The place where you belong The place where you belong
