Behind The Mask

Going through the motions Another day in this charade I've got so many to choose from All these masks I have made Will they ever notice My failure to fully feel How long until they realize My smile isn't real I put on my mask I blend into the crowd Fooling everyone Underneath this shroud I want to understand But how can I relate When mimicry has become My most defining trait Going through the motions Pretending to be sane Masquerading this smile Afflicted by my brain I don't know how to act So, all I do is hide Masking my insecurities Underneath my pride I put on my mask To cover up this face Blocking all emotion till I barley have a trace What do you see when You look past my lies Beyond the false smile That doesn't reach my eyes I have a heart But it's becoming stone Unable to connect I choose to walk alone I put on my mask Pretend to give a damn Hating all the while Concealing who I am I cover up this Broken mind of mine Lost on the inside Saying that I'm fine
