From the suburbs to the city In cafes, bars and clubs I worked to find a future A good career and love My head spinning round With the pressure and the pace The only thing I've known for sure Is change... As shadows of the skyline Stretch across this street Swell into the alleyways And call me I take my coat and step outside Deep into the freezing night Alone, alone, alone But for the company of night Framed by shops, graffitied walls And lit by evenings orange glow I slip as if invisible From scene to scene And passing conversations... I move amongst these buildings Like a word inside a mind On the edge of being spoken And born to some new life Though mid-winter comes Soon the days will grow again And the only thing I've known for sure Is change...
