I went to war and I survived All around me friends fell and died I could do nothing inside I cried But fight on to victory for the righteous side Battles won battles lost There are no benefits just costs Defeat the enemy make him run And ride into the sun Sleep without sleeping in fear again Hoping the nightmare will soon end Running blindly forward into the fire Being stopped short by miles and miles of wire Time means nothing the seasons have stopped changing The only constant is the endless raining Of water of steel of mud of blood Will anything ever stop this raging flood I went to war and I survived Returning home to fucking hot dogs and pie But thinking of friends now up in the sky Makes me question the reasons why Why did millions fight and die Wasn’t god watching with one eye Is he so lonely up there in the sky How could he let millions of people die I went to war and I survived My personal struggle remains locked inside Nothing can explain the fright That everyone felt each day and each night The flag flies alone in the wind At half mast for our friends
