İdil (Syriac: ܐܙܟ, romanized: Azakh, or Beth Zabday, Kurdish: Hezex, Arabic: آزخ, romanized: Azekh) is a city and seat of the İdil District of the Şırnak Province in Turkey. It is located in the historical region of Tur Abdin.
In the city, there is a Syriac Orthodox Church of the Mother of God (Arabic: كنيسة العذراء, Turkish: Meryem Ana Kilisesi).The town had a population of 30,271 in 2021 and is composed of Kurds of the Domanan, Dorikan, Harunan, Meman and Omerkan tribes. There is moreover a small Assyrian minority. |
