Hometown

I was born in a place called Meadow Creek Where the river runs right through the heart of town I used to sit outside and watch the sunset through the trees I always thought that I was never gonna leave Well I've grown up and things have changed One thing's here at night but it's gone the next day But I know a place that's still stayed the same Well the Lord knows I've tried in vain Cause I just can't take it here one more day But I can't ever go back to my hometown I met a girl whose name was Mary Lee We used to run those downtown streets like we owned em But now Mary Lee lays beneath a tree And I'm somewhere far away from all those painful memories Well I've grown up and things have changed One thing's here at night but it's gone the next day Mary still lives down deep in my soul I've tried to go back but I just can't take All the pain that comes with that beautiful place That's why I can't ever go back to my hometown That's why I can't ever go back to my hometown
