Hope and Pray

I tried to talk sense thought I had the right plan But some folks got struggles that I just don't understand. My pops was caught up in that liquor's embrace Stumbling down the street everybody knew his face. Kids throwin' rocks folks laughing in his name I begged him to change but it was always the same. "Stay home" I said "drink here instead At least keep your pride don't end up dead." But I can't fix what's deep inside No matter how hard I try to guide. Sometimes we fall can't find our way But I hope and pray hope and pray. One day in the rain I saw a man laid low Drenched in dirt with nowhere to go. Thought maybe this sight would make Pops see What life looks like when you lose your dignity. Took him to the spot showed him the mess Hoped he'd see himself and feel the distress. But he just walked up smiled asked where to get The same stuff that had the other man lit. But I can't fix what's deep inside No matter how hard I try to guide. You gotta let go trust in the plan Sometimes you can't change the heart of a man. Same story different scene speeding in a car My boy's dad thought he was a superstar. Running through red lights never buckled up "Relax I'm good" but I said "enough's enough." Took him to a wreck people hurt and scarred Tried to show him what happens when you push too hard.
