These Somber Mountains

Looming above these jovial valleys Wretched to my eye A frightening beauty, cloud-shrouded titans Cutting through the sky From up here, within my ken Lies the vulgar world of men Far from grief, from tragedy These sombre mountains set me free Vaporous dancers crash below concealing the distant Earth Ephemeral surface, yet grand in scope obscuring man-kinds worth And here, alone, I sit and weep What pleasure do I seek? A respite from such frigid hearts Colder than these peaks From up here, within my ken Lies the vulgar world of men Far from grief, from tragedy These sombre mountains set me free The Earth in tumult on every shore The truth of mankind's tale Petty squabbles they call war Placidity so frail As these clouds Yet still I sit atop these sombre mountains
