Cradle of Eternity

As the mist slowly drifts away I look at this august display In cycles from rain to sunlight Spread fields of green and patches of life I see rivers run From glaciers to oceans And all the things in between Of all these tiny little dots Of all shades and shapes I spot My gaze lingers on the ones bearing the stolen fire within The've built their cities They've tamed all the beasts Becoming kings overnight I feel so high Scaling the summits of all lives I feel so high The world is bright above the clouds Now the lords and their kin Are cutting through my skin With their quarries and their mines They won't stop 'til I'm dry The mantle I had is gone But somehow I'm too warm Where were forests are now crops But each year the crops burn hot The last birds on my shoulder Are singing no more There's no gold here to plunder The cities collapse from the core From the core No one comes to visit me now Another mass extinction has left me dry What sullen fate is cast from above? Do you want me to face future days alone?
