The Soup

You don't know what you can do for a soul You cast your heart out while we're guarding our own I picture you tending the garden while we're swimming in the soup (Another half truth) So I take a step back to regard the shoulders on which you grew Tear down the idols and look upon their wounds And I beat them senseless Still, wages stagnate (I can't see, are they blown away?) So we'll keep creeping around at the edge of the shade Chipping away at mountains only we can see Snake bitten, and we're wearing it like a lampshade In all the world's festivities Just as long as they don't think that we're on the same path And that'll keep us going While we string along And come around to it While we're swimming in the soup While we're waiting for What's sure to come Some kind of breakthrough Somewhere Or are we just senseless?
