Farewells

Yesterday When I knew where I stood It was clear There was a lot of good Old friendships They cannot always last All things end And they go much too fast All empires have a time to fall But they once had their glory days Glimmering in the minds of all Then vanishing into a haze To be considered with kindness Retrospect can have an appeal But pain of loss hard to avoid Impossible not to feel Happiness With stories we acquire It's all real The makings of desire What I need A step back into time To see that We were all once so fine Piece by piece many things collapse Getting back up to start again A stranger to what was normal Taking it all upon the chin The world that I knew has changed But it is not really an end We are all learning to adapt Allowing broken things to mend It's alright we're ok and getting better Nothing lasts forever A worthy endeavor Moments enough to make you smile Glad we had what there was All worthy of applause So it goes Faces start to disappear Still it's strange When they were always here I am fine What I have brings me joy Retrospect Is just hard to avoid Everyday better than the last But it can't change where I came from The ones that made me into me Making everywhere feel like home way out there living their own lives Everything they have I must commend Happy for everything we had But some good things just have to end It's alright we're ok and getting better Nothing lasts forever A worthy endeavor Moments enough to make you smile Glad we had what there was All worthy of applause
