II. Hindsight

I was tired of working towards answers to questions that got more confusing each time that I asked them So I found a faster way I remember when my path forked I followed the voice through the woods and wound up on the shore The water and sky were so dark You couldn't tell the two apart And so I floated out to where the tide and the cloud collide on my back I could feel the depth while my eyes just took in the Void I wasn't scared / I still heard that voice inside my ear that taught me to circumvent I didn't have to sell my soul to strike up a bargain I nearly retreated from that precipice I often wonder how things would be if I had But questions like that are shaky hands So I put them out of my mind when I'm casting spells I can bend the will of any man, but I can't turn back time I wish that I had higher aspirations but I'm just a hedonist in love with instant gratification I led you to the water with intentions to further the powers I got from my father and his father before him I didn't understand that you get what you get depending on who you ask Now I'm like the Void / it's kinda like being a black hole I've got a gravitational pull I'll pull you in, tear you to bits All at once I'm the darkness and the lighted lure on an anglerfish But I'm not the same boy I was before the lake I got a taste for something new and my appetite changed No more parlor tricks / now I see behind the scenes Casting spells like I'm pulling strings They're just the ties that bind you and me
