Safe Inside

I like to play my little puzzles I like to stay inside Sipping tea in my cozy bubble Where I can hide A book that's worn and slightly tattered A blanket pulled up tight Little crafts and quiet chatter Under soft, dim light I like to read in my makeshift nook With pillows piled high Lost in pages, every look A gentle, happy sigh The curtains drawn, the candle's glow Keeps shadows off the wall I settle in while embers flow And drift into a thrall While outside, the clouds are burning red And the rivers run with ash I just turn another page instead And play with my yarn stash I like to piece my tiny mysteries I like my quiet space Cutting paper into histories At my own pace The wind outside is sharp with glass And the streets are caving in But I'm just sorting beads of brass And painting with a pin While the sky drips down like candle wax And shadows walk the land I'll make my tea and tiny snacks And trace lines in some sand A tremor shakes the ground outside But here the kettle hums The forest turned to molten tide But I still count my crumbs I like to play my little puzzles I like to sort my clues Crossword boxes, rows and doubles Sudoku squares and cues I like to play my little puzzles I like to stay inside And I just hope my house won't crumble While I'm safe and satisfied
