In the garden, in the war

I made a plan to make myself a drink and sit outside and watch the stars tonight Coz I know she sees them too from Warsaw's streets But the clouds drifted on over, now I'm hiding from the rain beneath the cherry tree Sitting, sipping, waiting for the change I know will come, but don't yet see While my girl's across the border, I'm home doing what I oughta, in the meanwhile I don't see myself a soldier, but we all have got a part to play And the trees around the garden all be asking me to come up with a long term plan They don't need to know the details, just so long as the first point is to stay A car drives past the garden, and the sound fills up the night, breaking the curfew quiet I can hear them speeding on half way across town Now the rain finally clears up, and my evening starts to cheer up, though I'm all alone It takes more than than just a sudden change of plans to keep me down I got a message on my phone, from my brother out in Kolkata, India Says he doesn't have the faith to stop a war, but he's praying for me I guess he's got me covered, so I'll just pay it forward to my frontline friends Still believing in that change that I know will come, but don't yet see Lesha loves his kids and plays a mean guitar on Sundays in the worship band I don't see him as a soldier but he tells me that's his part to play While I'm here sipping in the garden he's out dodging mortar fire on the eastern front Giving everything he's got that we might live our lives another day
