I wrote you a letter Everyone I needed closure from I started it with "Dear" Ended it with "sincerely", sincerely Dear "Mama" Dear "Daddy" Dear "Baby Girl" Dear "Big Sister Dear" Ex Lover" Dear "Childhood friend" Some actions I learned never to do again Wiser now I learned to protect my blessings Survivor now I learned to be a fighter now Dear "Cousin" Dear "Ex" Dear "write a letter to my damn self" So I can close the chapter to the old "me" Thanking "me" genuinely We graduating with "life" degrees If I had to write that letter to anybody It had to be "me" Sorry for pushing wounds so deep Burying them with weed Burying them with fine red wine Washed down with "Dear Mama" And men who remind me of "Dear Daddy" It's a revival No more digging grave yards You feel me? It's an upheaval I am carrying sacred space In ancient burial sites So deep To hold my ancestors Making rites of passages For all the dear baby girls And dear sisters And dear brothers All pride set aside The realest letter I ever wrote Was addressed to me
