Repentance

I found myself remembering the scriptures, "Awake, awake, awake!" Where had I been, and what had I done to leave such a wake? How long have I been gone, I thought, as I flipped through my fears "Wake up!" I said when I committed acts that only brought tears "Stay away," I cried as I read of friends that I had hurt or wronged "I'm not awake, please This isn't me" I hoped and longed And knowing I couldn't, I pled for forgiveness from all And they forgave me, and some did not, but I made call after call "I'm sorry" I said "I knew no better then But now I know I'm disgusted" They said "How could you not have known?" I cried, "I had not my sight!" which made them outraged aright I begged, "Can you forgive me? I want to make it right" And they said, "No" to doom me to my eternal abyss I looked up and cried aloud, "My God, My God I have been amiss" Help this sinner through my flaws, escape death at Satan's claws Bring my past life to a pause, make my life deserve applause And He said, "I am the way the truth and the life And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die I have plans for you yet You are saved as you repent You can see that this is so, when past sins you'll never go" "I do not want to die" I said "Help me Lord mine unbelief" He said, "It is all okay Be born anew this day" And the chains fell at my feet, no longer part of me "Now, believe me when I say that your sins are washed away" Wherefore he took my hand and took my grief And I stepped back from the cliff, heart mended from its rift And I sought my path anew, guided by earth's greatest Who And for once my world was no longer black, in fact, the sky was blue
