Oh Mother

Oh mother sometimes I feel my life draining away Ebbing away just like the tide Oh father, sometimes I feel my life drifting away Fading away into the cold black night I have seen so many terrible things Horrible things pass before my eyes I long for the comfort a long sleep would bring So come tuck me in and kiss me goodnight For I am so weary and not thinking clearly Truly frightened of the things that I might do My dreams have been shattered My soul left in tatters I'm a shell of the man who you once knew Oh mother can't you see a little hope for me Just within reach to keep me hanging on Oh father I pray that you will give me the strength To get through this pain and move beyond Let the traumas I've been through all disappear Like a nightmare so clear can vanish with the dawn Leaving the ghost of my dark thoughts behind Let me find peace of mind, so I can be strong Let the light that's within me Shine through this city And illuminate every soul within its walls Let a positive vision conquer superstition And rise as a blessing to us all
