In My Town

The streets lie naked in the sun The hours are grinding over cobble-stones And though the day has just begun I am almost worn out to the bone I strain my ears to hear a sound I could be walking underground But then I feel This place seems so unreal Life goes on in my town The sun goes down on my town The children laugh and play And almost like dream they fade away The years have passed without a trace And left no lines upon our fading prime ‘Cos when I like into your face It feels as though I’m drifting out of time I raise my eyes, my head stays bowed The silver lining’s tinged with clouds They fly unchained Through a world outside the rain Life goes on in my town The sun goes down on my town The children laugh and play And as their laughter fades away When can dream ourselves from here Until we both have disappeared The children laugh and play And almost like dream they fade away
