Unshaded lightbulbs suck the eyes Shattered nerves are brutalized With every move are bound to crack And finally comes the sheer attack The wire mesh that shrouds the bars The sun that filters through the glass The frosted panes are greased and stained He´ll never see pure light again Weltering in sweat-drenched sleep The wounded flesh will always creep Recurrent nightmares of the dead Their voices roar inside his head The cell´s a cauldron in the heat That measures ten by seven feet The walls of Death Row bear no sound Suffocating underground The beast of prey Is now at bay His feet are dangling from a chair Too numb to flee Too tired to strive This creature has been without lair And chased for all his life The chamber´s lit like Halloween The noose hangs swinging `neath the beams A spider´s spinning the last thread For the fly to struggle in its web No witness there to speak The horror stings too deep The chaplain speaks a final prayer One must endure the final glare The thirteen steps, the noose, the mask The snap that ends the hangman´s task The snap that ends the hangman´s task In the Corner loom the gallows
