Midnight in the Karakoram

Would living so plain be living at all Those who think they have much have nothing at all We'll leave them in our dust And begin the finest pursuit of them all Only we have the gall To raise our feet and ascend To places anew It's a heavenly realm And one that so few Besides us will enjoy And the German's can have the Eiger, that's fine The true peaks are mine But it's midnight Stranded on ice And the cold, how it burns The cold, how it burns It's midnight Hours til light And we'll never return We'll never return Raise a drink to the fools Who will follow behind All the humblest of men With the fullest of minds As they fall in the snow in awe of those Who were able to find A route so divine As each new peak succumbs (just another notch) Is tucked under our thumb (oh what a riposte!)
