Some might say I should just get over it But they don't know the trials and tribulations I've been through Without you You were next to me When you took your final breath I was holding you tight And looking into your fading eyes That used to shine so bright But they still illuminate my mind The weight of carrying you on the way home Was so heavy and my arms felt frail But I carried on Because you carried me through my teenage years And even when I was a child Learning how cruel life can be I never understood that until the universe took you away from me You were next to me When you took your final breath I was holding you tight And looking into your fading eyes That used to shine so bright But they still illuminate my mind It felt like yesterday I see it all so vividly I wish I had more Than 24 hours To say my final words Just us two, more than a few I love you You told me indirectly that I'll make it through til the end But our ends met And I felt the light dimming When I closed my eyes after you stopped shimmering At least you weren't shivering anymore I came home to an empty house It became darker than before You were next to me When you took your final breath I was holding you tight And looking into your fading eyes That used to shine so bright But they still illuminate my mind
