The star stands still in darkness as the moon looks down at me The crickets play as bullfrogs sing the water's testimony The rain and thunder teach me hymns, the ashtray says, you owe me The wonder's in a lost man's head when he asks himself, if only I saw his fear beneath his smile as his soul cried out in silence Am I alone, or am I home, or are they even divided He tasted life, he tasted death, he swam in good and evil He'd walked the line and did his time, living in between them He stumbled back from the last of memories that flash in black He mumbled as he slowly passed the history of his troubled past He sat in void and nature's noise told him to be quiet Be filled with joy, let love destroy the slumber of the silence He gazes out across the calm, the sky danced on the mirror He paced around another psalm as he begged the Lord, speak clear The Lord said, son, you've lived and run, you have nowhere left to go Walk with me and I will teach all that you need to know A drifter he was, a drifter he is, a drifter through the light He already is, the light always was, the whisper in the night He wandered towards an open door, his eyes consumed with glory He entered in, and that's the end of this man's earthly story
