Scraping the dinner table with credit cards Picking and pulling the carpet apart Just like a superstar! Peppered with purple glitter Held together by duct tape There were no more parts and pieces Games left to play Tore tin foil beneath the bleachers Forgot all those lullabies for broadway in bootstraps and lingerie Copycat corroding couches No remotes for the screens Sometimes I dream of Portland The window only cracked a smidge The titanic winds lapsed against the building Rendered minuscule by traffic and tabloids Skittering tires skid across the potholes The pipers palms prance along the bassoon Here too soon I loved you exactly enough to lose you These early days of the future Sleeping in just to catch a glimpse in the dark But the sight stung like eyedrops Your always murky, dissipating in pratfalls These tentpoles tense like tonsils Despite the menace, stalling again for time Weddings, birthdays, and funerals were never mine
