I don't want to listen to the news Sowing fear today. Endless excerpts, dubious experts speak All lined up to say "That's it's all alright, listen to our fright" Outlying views - this is not the news. I can't see the wood for trees So don't burden me with trivial stuff that I can't filter Overwhelmed by cod philosophy I'm sinking fast through waves of dimwit half-baked idiocy Social media, armchair pundits rise Fourteen minutes' fame Viral posting, vox-pop hosting lies Weaponised hearsay "But it's all alright Listen while we fight" Spurious trash - piling up too fast After all that has been said and done The history books will show the path to sanity Validating those who kept their tongues Wisdom will be seen Beckoning forth from slough of mental fog The clarity I seek is not within the crowd I'm overwhelmed but my heart won't be sunk I'm hanging onto life Hanging onto life
