Sky's So Big

The sun. The sea. The salt. The sand The calling summer’s soft demand Though tethered to the mother’s hand The ground’s too hot, must run not stand What can I do? Nothing at all The sky’s so big And I’m so small Shifting dunes that pepper the skin Wiry grass that is razor thin. Heat so dry it distorts the wind Burning the eye, shrinking the skin What can I do? Nothing at all The sky’s so big And I’m so small Laughing laughter the water’s cool Kicking spray in this living pool Dwarfed in size by the blue sky’s rule Shaken and cold now nature’s fool What can I do? Nothing at all The sky’s so big And I’m so small Frightened of you. Frightened of me By such simple things like a tree Reality is far different Than I had dreamed that it would be What can I do?
