Yea it is والله ما إحنا طالعين منها لو شو ما صار، لو بدنا كلنا نوقف في ساحة من الساحات ويقصفونا، حنضل موجودين لأنه هذي أرضنا، لو تخلينا اليوم عنها والله ما خلّوا عنا شبر في كل فلسطين وهذا قرار شعبي، بتوافقوا عليه يا عمي؟ When it comes to a portrayal of an entire people, when you reduce them to this perfect victim, you are shrinking the scope of humanity A great example of this is the late, amazing, beloved journalist Shirin Abu Akleh, who was killed by Israeli forces on May 11th It wasn't enough that she was a Palestinian killed by Israeli forces in an occupied territory where the Israeli forces had no business being there in the first place That was not enough, we had to emphasize over and over again that she was a woman and a Christian and she wasn't covered and she was wearing a clearly marked press vest and a helmet when she was shot and that she was a delightful person and that she had a pet dog, we had to have all of these qualifiers in order to conceive Shirin Abu Akleh as a mournable figure, I think that is outrageous The mere fact that a Palestinian, regardless of the content of their character, the mere fact that a Palestinian was shot and killed in the street in their own land in occupied territory is enough and should be enough to cause a global outrage, but when we burden ourselves and we task ourselves with giving each other all these qualifiers You know, I mean, even with like, when George Floyd was killed by American police, even when there's other victims of American police brutality, there's so much emphasis on their humane profession, on the fact that they never hurt a fly And then, you know, other media actors want to assassinate their characters by saying, you know, they were addicted to drugs or they're misogynistic or blah, blah, blah None of those things matter, The fact of the matter is the state shouldn't be killing people let alone in occupied territory that they have no business being in הזכות שלי, של אשתי, של הילדים שלי להסתובב בכבישי יהודה ושומרון יותר חשוב מזכות התנועה של הערבים, סליחה מוחמד, אבל זו המציאות, זו האמת, זכות החיים שלי קודמת לסליחה Salam Zahran spent her life trying to shield her three boys from the violence of the Israeli occupation But the killing of her 13-year-old son, Ghassan, on the 9th of July made her realize that that is near impossible In the village of Deir Abu Mishal, close to Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, Israeli soldiers shot dead Ghassan in broad daylight as he was playing with his friends while his mother was at work I always used to say, keep the children away from everything, let them live and be happy, but you cannot, it's out of your control, I used to think this way, but I was wrong, they are part of everything that is happening I think our generation's exposure to technology has killed their confidence I think we've spent so much time on our devices worrying about other people's lives and setting unrealistic standards for ourselves and our physical appearance And then what stage we wanna be at in our lives And I think when those expectations meet your ego of course your confidence is gonna get shot And I may be a hypocrite for saying this but I genuinely think we should all put our phones down Go outside look at the stars and realize how insignificant we are you know This is what we were born and raised in In this environment with all these new technological advancements so you can't blame us Just how someone in their respective older generations would have shamed them for how they were behaving in their time Likewise with them shaming us in our time They just wouldn't get it So, to live in submission But to live Just life It's the most humane thing we've done for one another We've created this space that allows for love for equality for kindness for consideration To be loved is to be seen and That's just basic necessity for any person no matter who they are or what they are going through Yet we are so disconnected in our humanity genocide and war prevails in our advancements lead us away from justice? I feel like my soul has lost its warmth I feel like the mornings and nights are colder That what was once colorful in my life is sitting behind a translucent wall of red and gray I think the reason is that this love attention and care we that we have is a limited resource like anything else And with any limited resource you can't just be handing it out to everyone you know You use that wisely to people who you know are worth it My evolution is marked by the issues I once avoided, but now confronted head on And the metric for growth is how I willingly embrace discomfort So greatness should be measured by personal fu
