Starlings

I, I want to fly I want to fly like the starlings in winter I want to feel I want to feel everything Without it all seeping in I want to dance with no distraction In no direction With this weight lifted from my shoulder I'll learn to grow older I'll learn to go with the wind These little birds they fly so free I learn to be a starling when I allow myself to be Listening to every moment as it comes Eating pasta on the doorstep Breathing in the morning hum My mother will die some day But I have spent my life grasping onto every single word she says So when she cried at the kitchen table Oh this woman who had sheltered me I soon would have to cradle in return I learnt We're not invincible We're all just animals But too clever for our own good We're too emotional We're too fearful Oh we are out of control Still we try to rise Above it all To live where the starlings fly To live where the starlings fly To live To fly Above these fields where my bones shall lie Now live Just fly To bask in winter golden skies I live I fly I fly I fly
