The World on Its Side

Staying in the moment takes on new meaning When the moment is fragile at best I wanna look back to better days my friends And I wanna look ahead to resolve It's an overdose of humility When the invisible enemy is winning the war I think of our parents and the march in their halls Halls lined with a greater despair Two world wars the Spanish flu And the weight of the great depression It's the only way for me to put this all in its place When compared to my heroes in history The greater the suffering the greater the healing The greater coming out the other side I think of our parents I think of their parents And the mountains they had to climb Cliche to say these are hard times crazy and surreal Another day another loss lost to statistics sci fi that's the feel Looking for light somewhere in the vista So hard to take things in stride Hard to take things in stride with the world on its side A defining moment will characterize each of us As to the scars that we bear And carry forward on our journey to the end destination That each of humans do share The world will change as it has before And life will never quite seem the same I think of our parents and I think of their parents With 30 years of the world gone insane
