This Late in the Game

This Late in the Game I woke up this mornin' I was impressed to see everything still in its place Waking green side up put a really big smile on my face When I open my eyes and my feet hit the floor flush in the morning That smile still rises with me pairs well with my heart that's still soaring This late in the game one day at a time This late in the game I ain't drawing any lines This late in the game I'm grateful for every breath I take This late in game I do the math every day this late in the game I recall my parents 'round the kitchen table trading aches and pain I thought at the time those golden years seemed so far away After my parents were gone it didn't take long to understand their concern There's comfort and solace in the spoken poultice I'm never too old to learn Although the next sunrise is much further away when I lay my head "in these days" It's ok the shorter days make for dreams sweeter with their stay Never have I wished to be any other age than there and then at that moment in time What I know now that I didn't know then puts me right here in my prime
