What if everything's a prayer? Can't escape it, like the air It surrounds us Is everything holy and rare The Sacred everywhere: All around us? (Is the One I love everywhere?) If we define prayer as a longing for protection and connection A yearning we all have for love and affection A filling of the void within to calm our existential perplexion An aching for a different kind of experience, to transcend the despair Then could everything be seen as a prayer? Lovers making love, becoming one, rising above, or couples fighting on Because they're mourning the loss of their love, thereof Could both of these be two sides of the same want? What about monks in the monastery, chosen to be celibate and Seek God - are they yearning for the same kind of climax, liberating? Or friends sitting at a table; laughing and celebrating Or relatives at a funeral, shedding tears, devastated? Even the most mundane activities would become miracles The people we meet would become oracles In beggars and prostitutes, the Divine would become visible... If only we would have the eyes to see the invisible! What if everything's a prayer? Can't escape it, like the air It surrounds us. (Is the One I love everywhere?) Is everything holy and rare The Sacred everywhere: All around us? (All around us!) What about the times we're drowning our sorrows in alcohol Or escaping reality by doing drugs, hoping to be whole? Some might ask: "how can that a prayer be?" But aren't we filling the same void when binge-watching TV? It's easier to see my proposition in a crying child, yearning for safety But everyone addicted was once a child, and still is Trying to heal that wound in a way that's not helpful or healthy... But don't we all by swiping right, fishing for likes, and scrolling feeds? It's easy to label everything good or bad, white or black But what if reality is far more complex than that? What if all of it comes from the same place of lack and hunger That has to be addressed or it'll eat us from the inside just like anger? What if everything's a prayer? Can't escape it, like the air It surrounds us. (Is the One I love everywhere?) Is everything holy and rare The Sacred everywhere: All around us? (All around us!) Though everything we do is an expression of this yearning Not everything quenches it. Can the answer lie in learning To see everything as holy? But, there's a difference in embodying and numbing - The latter bringing pain, the former being life-giving and loving What if everything's a prayer? Can't escape it, like the air It surrounds us. (Is the One I love everywhere?) Is everything holy and rare The Sacred everywhere: All around us? (All around us!) So, what if everything is a prayer, wouldn't life be glorious? Then everyday activities would become opportunities to experience the mysterious: Glory in us
