That Dog of Mine (Well Well Well)

I used to live down the canyon a ways A long time ago in the sunflower days The old train tracks under wide open skys And my dog Sam always by my side Well well well I loved to spend my time With that dog of mine We'd run free all along the hills Explored the caves and the run down mills And he always came to me when I called And we'd be home before nightfall Well well well I loved to spend my time With that dog of mine After a while Sam was less bold I grew up but he grew old When he couldn't hike anymore He still followed me out the door I dug his grave with a rusty spade And buried him on a sunny day And stood there for what seemed like years Almost too sad to shed a tear Well well well Don't know how to spend my time Without that dog of mine Sometimes I sit by the fire place And smile when I think of the sunflower days Even the best things come to an end but He wasn't just a dog, he was my friend Well well well As long as those sunflowers shine I'll miss that dog of mine Well well well As long as those sunflowers shine I'll love that dog of mine
