I Wish I Was a Carpenter

In regards to how I’m doing It depends who asked And how come in the first place Do they wanna know so bad? I wake up in the morning To the smell of wasted time And thrown out, black coffee grinds I wish I was a carpenter I wish I was a cook I wish I was a business man I wish I binded books I wish that I flew airplanes Or worked on cars I wish I wanted to do about anything But pound on my guitar In regards to where I’m going I’ll tell you when I know I’ll find out when I get there Or when I get back home I lay down in the evening When the sun is underground I wait for today to come around I wish I was a rowboat I wish I was a trout I wish I was a baby bear Just running around I wish I was a rainbow I’d look pretty, then I’d leave Instead I’m down here Begging on my knees I could never know as much as the stars, Lord I could never paint the colors of the breeze, I could never look as pretty as the castles in the sky Or dance to the rhythm of the trees
