Southbound

Put aside all you got And listen to me my friend Our days of being oh so motionless Are coming to an end Pockets full of dollar bills Cause now we're both making pay And soon enough we'll have to answer the call Of the old highway And a letter is all we'll leave behind To be read by those who have stayed And at the bottom written perfectly These are the words it'll say Good Lord we're southbound Both agreeing that's what's best The next train leaves in the morning So let's go and get some rest Now in Carolina we can wonder around without any doubt But in the back of our minds we know what money we had is running out Because paradise it don't last long when you're out there on your own But I'll take it for a few short days even if it means that we'll be walking home I'm confident cause there's a God watching over us And that's all we need to know So throw out those cigarettes For this brief time I must survive I'm headed south to find some peace and I Plan on arriving alive Good Lord we're southbound Both agreeing that's what's best The next train leaves in the morning So let's go and get some rest
