The Ones That Knew Her Best

Well my children are all raised to have children of their own And now it's just me and my lover left in our mobile home And I am so amazed by how I have grown I built a life off of loving and hard work alone Kindness for others is what I always like to say I teach it to my grandchildren and hope with them it'll stay I cook them good meals and take a photo every holiday It brings me joy and I wouldn't have it any other way But I'm waking up in the middle of the night feeling oh so sore Then put my pain aside for now to complete the daily chores And then the doctor calls me up and says to do them no more A deathly disease came with the breeze and washed up on my shore Well I can't bring myself to cry while others around me weep I'm too sick for church but I still get visits from the local priest Meanwhile all my loved ones try to make ends meet But I'm stuck in bed resting my head for I have grown so weak Well it seems that I've lost all my sight on everything I've learned And now I'm spending none of my thoughts on the money that I have earned Today I'm more amazed by how the tables turned So now my life is gone won't you carry on to have my body burned Well the ones that knew her best were the ones to say so long Now I pray more than anything that I'd never done her wrong And somehow she finds her way into all of my songs But she ended her race in a better place, in heaven where she belongs Yes she ended her race in a better place, in heaven where she belongs
